Each year on August 21, we celebrate National Senior Citizens Day to let our beloved seniors know how much we care about and appreciate them. It is a sign of respect and gratitude for all of the incredible progress and legacies that have been left behind by those who came before us. As we approach this special day, Robson Reserve would like to extend an extra special thank you to the senior citizens of Robson Reserve who truly make our community wonderful!
In 1988, the National Senior Citizens Day officially came to be when Ronald Regan declared the holiday to show his admiration for senior citizens in the United States. However, many Americans still celebrated the holiday on August 14th, years before its official start date when Franklin D. Roosevelt signed the Social Security Act in 1935. Both presidents wanted to send the message that it is incredibly important to show not only the current seniors, but all individuals that as we grow in society we will continue to be valued for our contributions to our communities. The day was also established to bring light to certain social, economic, and health issues that senior citizen’s face.
